Durant, Oklahoma, "The Gateway to Lake Texoma," is located only 10 miles from Lake Texoma, one of the most popular vacation destinations in the Southwest. The county seat of Bryan county since 1908, Durant, "The Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma" is 20 miles north of Denison, Texas and 86 miles north of Dallas Texas. Oklahoma City, the state capital, is 150 miles to the northwest. The city of Durant currently  has a population of over 15,000 and is home to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University campus with about 4,000 student enrollment. SOSU is known as the "Campus Of A Thousand Magnolias."

This classical revival courthouse was built in 1917. It is the last county seat before the Texas state line. The Durant City Hall is nearby.
 

 

Durant has eight city parks and there are many more along the Lake Texoma shoreline. There are walking trails in most of the parks.

Fishing is great in the area! Lake Texoma is known as the "Striper Capital of the World," and is one of a few lakes nationally where the striped bass reproduce naturally. Other popular species in the lake include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white crappie, black crappie, blue catfish and channel catfish.

Hunters from all over enjoy stalking whitetail deer, mallard, turkey, quail, dove and pheasant in the nearby areas.
